2 NEW FAMILY FARM ASSOCIATIONS ESTABLISHED!

CAPOOCAN FAMILY RURAL SCHOOL

A group of people from the UMACAP, a people's organization engaged in the establishment and proper management of the forest, showed interest in establishing a Family Farm School in their area in San Joaquin, Capoocan, Leyte. They have recently chosen a set of officers who will be the management council of the Capoocan Family Rural School. They intend to open a high school as early as June 2007. The recently elected officers of the Capoocan Family Rural School are as follows:

PARACLETE FAMILY RURAL HIGH SCHOOL


Last December 8, 2006, the group coming from Tacloban City organized themselves into the association which will establish another Family Farm School at Leyte. The site will be at the Paraclete Complex located at the outskirts of Tacloban City. They named theire association as Paraclete Family Rural High School. They were also able to clartify the vision and mission of the group towards rural development.

During the 1st FFS Management Council's Seminar, the seven associations decided to set-up an Ad hoc Committee who shall over see the establishment of the future Federation of Family Farm School Associations in the Philippines. The 1st FFS Management Councils' Seminar

The first Family Farm School Management Councils' Seminar was held last November 14-16, 2006 at TREES, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, UP Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. The activity was attended by members of the management council of each of the seven (7) Family Farm School in the Philippines namely; Bais FFS, Balete FFS, Dagatan FFS, Dingle FFS, Lanao FFS, Talon FFS and Yason FFS. This event is historical in that this marks the very first time that all officers of each FFS Association were gathered in one place. The theme for the said activity was "The Family Farm Associations: The Cornerstone of the Family Farm Schools".
